Alaska Hwy Route 97 Road Closures

Hello Vanstock Family! We wanted to give a live update and helpful resources for the fire and current road closures on the Alcan.

If this is news, there is a wildfire in the summit lake region on hwy 97 "The Alcan" but do not worry there is a DETOUR :)

"Highway 97 Both Directions - Highway 97 (Alaska Highway), in both directions. There is a wildfire between Grouse Trail and Toad Mountain Rd for 161.9 km (25 to 187 km north of Fort Nelson). Road closed. Next update time Tue Jun 10 at 8:00 AM MST. Last updated Mon Jun 9 at 9:51 PM MST."

The best detour is the Cassiar Hwy #37. To avoid backtracking you need to make your move towards the Cassiar Hwy at Prince George. If you are currently past Prince George or close to Fort Nelson you will unfortunately need to back track or wait for the potential road opening (I would recommend backtracking to Prince George it will most likely be the fastest option.)

These are some helpful resources to get LIVE information. Please follow these official resources as online news outlets and general social media is not a current or accurate way to plan your route.

Drive BC is the most accurate and up to date information. The map function is great to visualize your route and road conditions.
